Evening Walk – The Environs of Sizergh Clare & Mick, Colin & Val, Tony & Sue, Graham & Irene, Val, Hugh Wet, wet, wet! Meeting up at the Strickland Arms, the 10 members decided that a drink inside would be better than walking in the torrential rain. And it worked, as the weather looked much better after that drink, though by the time they'd set off it was raining again. Clare led off down Nanny Pie Lane after deciding that the short variation walk would be best. Then down to the River Kent and across the bouncy bridge to head north through Wilson Place to arrive at Larkhall Bridge across the canal. The plan was to head back to Sedgwick along the canal, but Sue & Tony insisted on a diversion through Larkrigg Woods to see the superb Bluebell display. Then back via Sedgwick and the bouncy bridge again to complete the evening with another drink in the Strickland Arms. Well it seemed the right thing to do. Thanks to Clare & Mick for a lovely walk.

Like it or loathe it, there is no denying the impact of environmental artist Steve Messam’s Paper Bridge, a striking river-spanning construction, made entirely of bright red paper locally sourced from Croppers paper mill in Burneside. It will be dismantled on May 18th

Mid-week Walk – The Gordale/Malham Tarn Round Clare & Mick, Colin & Val, Tony & Sue, Ellie, Frank, Hugh, Sam & Elaine, Norman Twelve members and friends met up in Malham to explore The Weets which most of us had never been on. Leaders Colin and Val however decided on a change of plan and opted for the Gordale/Malham Tarn/Malham Cove round. We shared Janets Foss with lots of other walkers, and Gordale Scar was equally busy including school parties. Deciding that the scramble up the waterfall would be too tricky in the conditions, we returned out of the gorge and walked up the fell above for lunch with a superb view down into the gorge. Then across to the Tarn and Great Close Scar, before heading south for Water Sinks where we got the route wrong and ended up climbing a wall. Then down the excellent Watlowes to debouch onto the top of Malham Cove and the wonderful situation where a weasel kept us amused or a few minutes. Tea in the much missed sunshine outside the Listers Arms rounded off the day nicely Thanks to Colin and Val another excellent mid-week walk.
